When does JOTA/JOTI take place?

JOTA/JOTI will take place on Saturday 21st and Sunday 22nd October 2017. The day will be split into a morning and an afternoon session. For half of the day, groups will take part in JOTA/JOTI activities. The other half of the day will include adventurous activities at our Scout Adventures centres (e.g. climbing).

Session times:

Saturday: 09:30 – 13:00 AND 14:00 – 17:30
Sunday: 09:00 – 12:30 AND 13:30 – 17:00

What are the dates for JOTA/JOTI 2018 – 2020?

JOTA-JOTI is always the third full weekend in October. The future dates are:

  • 19 to 21 October 2018
  • 18 to 20 October 2019
  • 16 to 18 October 2020

Where is JOTA/JOTI held?

JOTA/JOTI is held at three Scout Adventure Centres over the same weekend – these are Gilwell Park, Woodhouse Park and Youlbury. You can find further information about Scout Adventures here.

Can we attend on either Saturday or Sunday?

The event is open to all areas and all sections for both days. If you are particularly keen you can book and pay for both days, however the programme and activities will repeat themselves.

Can we stay on centre and camp overnight?

We allow groups to stay on site overnight for JOTA/JOTI. If you would like to camp, please book your overnight stays when you book your tickets or log in later to add your overnight stay.

This will give your group the opportunity to take part in the JOTA/JOTI event on one day and explore our sites, on-site activities or the surrounding areas on the other.

Can we book on-site activities in addition to our JOTA/JOTI booking?

Yes, you can book additional activities outside of the event running times. Make the most out of your trip to one of our Scout Adventures Centres.

What happens if I do not book by the closing date?

JOTA/JOTI is a popular event. We have to limit ticket numbers to ensure everyone has the opportunity to take part in all the activities we have to offer. Last year we sold out completely, so please book your tickets early to ensure your space. We cannot take bookings or add tickets to your booking after bookings have been closed. Please note that in comparison to other Scout Adventures events, you will not be able to add extra participants on arrival.

In order to guarantee places you should get your bookings in as soon as possible after booking opens, especially for larger groups.

Can I bring more guests on the day?

How do you divide groups into JOTA/JOTI morning and afternoon sessions?

We divide the groups into an even JOTA/JOTI morning and afternoon session to ensure that everyone can take part in all activities offered.

We aim for all participants booked under the same booking reference to be one group. If you have any preferences or would like your group to pair up with another group, please contact us on jotajoti@scouts.org.uk. We can amend the allocation up to 4 weeks prior to the event.

Especially for very large groups, however, we cannot guarantee that all members of the group will be in the same session.

Can I choose between JOTA/JOTI morning and afternoon sessions?

We divide the groups into an even morning and afternoon session to ensure that everyone can take part in all activities offered.

If you have any preferences regarding the timing of your JOTA/JOTI session, please contact us on jotajoti@scouts.org.uk. We can amend the allocation up to 4 weeks prior to the event and will try to meet your preference. However, we cannot guarantee the allocation of the requested timing.

Can you tell me whether catering is included in the ticket price?

Please note there will not be any refreshment facilities available to visiting groups. Please make your own arrangements to bring food and drink with you. Depending on the site, a souvenir shop or a snack bar with drinks and sweets may be available. If you need further information contact us on jotajoti@scouts.org.uk

Please note: cooking as an activity is only provided at Scout Adventures Woodhouse Park.

Can leaders take part in activities?

Activities are intended specifically for Beavers, Cubs, Scouts and Explorers. In order to give the maximum opportunity to the young people, leaders and helpers are not permitted to take part in activities unless required to do so for safety reasons.

What should I do if I feel something is unsafe?

Please contact a member of the event staff at your earliest convenience and we will ensure the matter is addressed.

Do you need help with the event?

Yes, we’d be very grateful for help at the event, if you are able to help for the whole weekend and/or the week before we will feed and accommodate you where possible. Should you wish to offer your services please email jotajoti@scouts.org.uk.

Is there an event badge?

Yes there is and the cost of this is included in the participant fees.

Do we have to pay for the badge?

No you don’t, it is included in the participant fee. However, should you require additional badges there will be a charge.

Do we have to pay for activities?

All activities are included in the charge for all participants.

What about special needs groups, are all activities open to them?

Please approach the instructor on the activity, who will then assess the suitability of the activity and provide additional support if required.

Do I need to stay with my group during the day?

Some leaders choose to stay with their groups, while others allow their young people to do what they want to do. All we ask is that you stay on site and that you are available should you be needed. It is your decision whether you stay with your group or not.

What is the dress code? Do I need to bring special clothing?

Please come dressed for activities! Group t-shirts/polo shirts and group scarf are preferable, but please take the weather into account and dress accordingly. The indoor space usually warm up quite quickly, however, outdoor activities may take place outdoors – dependent on the weather.

Is there event merchandise?

Apart from the badge, no specific event merchandise will be available for this Scout Adventures event. However, Scouts Shops might offer a JOTA/JOTI range. Please check the Scout Shops online shop
